Event Description

Join us for an engaging and free virtual training on how to recognize and respond to an opioid overdose.

 Following the completion of the training, participants will be able to: 

  • Gain a deeper insight into the current overdose trends in Dane County 
  • Understand the function of naloxone - what it can and cannot do 
  • Recognize the symptoms of an opioid overdose
  • Respond to an opioid overdose 
  • Administer nasal naloxone 
  • Refer people to harm reduction services provided by Public Health Madison and Dane County and other community partners
  • Debunk misconceptions and combat stigmatizing beliefs about drugs and people who use them 

Additional optional components that can be included based on audience: administer injectable naloxone, understand the function and limitations of drug checking strips, teach others how to use drug checking strips, explore limitations of “Good Samaritan” protections for people who use drugs
