Event Description
About: After many hours of seed collecting last summer and fall, followed by many more hours spent seed processing and weighing earlier this winter, it’s finally time to get all that seed on the ground! Join us to help plant new prairie or improve woodland restorations by hand casting seed: we’ll provide bags or buckets of seed, you’ll spread the seed across the site – no prior experience is needed, all training will be provided.
*Registration is REQUIRED and space is limited* Sign up here. (You will need to create an account using our volunteer portal, MyImpact)
What to Know:
- All tools and training are provided.
- Bring drinking water and a snack if you'd like.
- In case of cancellation due to weather, a notification will be made via email and/or phone to participants who have signed up.
What to Wear: This job will require walking across uneven, frozen ground and potentially through snow, please dress appropriately for the weather, including warm gloves and tall boots. There may be brush and thorny plants that snag synthetic clothing - dress with this in mind.
Accessibility:
- Volunteers should be comfortable with walking on uneven terrain and carrying a bag or bucket weighing up to 5 pounds. Volunteers will need use of their hands to spread seed.
- View our Open Restrooms web page for bathroom availability. If there is no bathroom at a workday site, either use one before the workday or ask staff to suggest a nearby public location.
- Our department is committed to providing meaningful access to our programs and resources to all individuals, regardless of primary language or ability. If you need language assistance services or an accessibility modification for this program, please submit this request form a minimum of 10 business days before the program to make the request. Please note, it is not possible for all programs to be modified.
