The Dane County Board of Supervisors will meet tonight at 6:00pm to hear a special presentation from Dane County Controller Chuck Hicklin that will include an overview of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, as well as the American Rescue Plan (ARP).

The CARES Act provided Dane County with $95 million for expenses related to COVID-19, while the American Rescue Plan will provide Dane County with $106 million for pandemic-related expenses.

"I look forward to hearing an update on the CARES Act, as well as on the additional incoming funds Dane County will receive from the American Rescue Plan," said County Board Chair Analiese Eicher. "Dane County has played a pivotal role in the lives of the residents of Dane County as the pandemic began and continues to have an impact. Without these funds from the federal government, we would not have been able to provide food, rental assistance, and relief funds to local businesses."

Following the presentation from Controller Hicklin, the Board will hold its regularly scheduled meeting at 7:00pm.

At the meeting, the County Board will consider two resolutions that will provide funds for responding to the pandemic.

2020 RES-431 will continue Dane County’s COVID-19 food program with Second Harvest Food Bank by providing an additional $10 million for the purchase of food and distribution to local food pantries. The contract will allow the county to continue a partnership that was first established in May 2020 to ensure residents will be able to access food.

"Although there is a light at the end of the tunnel, the pandemic is not over. There are still great needs in our community. It’s critical that we provide these funds to people that have felt and continue to confront the negative impacts of the pandemic," said County Board Supervisor Patrick Miles (District 34), who is also Chair of the Personnel and Finance Committee.

The Board will also consider a resolution to support county operations, including HVAC improvements and room dividers in the Exhibition Hall at the Alliant Energy Center, technology investments to enhance conference room capabilities and to support telework arrangements, as well as to extend hotel sheltering for July and August.

The agenda for the meeting is available here. Members of the public can find information to connect and register to speak at the top of the agenda.
