Sheriff's Office

At approximately 11:00 pm, Dane County Sheriff’s Deputies, along with Fire Departments from Middleton, Verona, Mt. Horeb, Cross Plains, Union, and Black Earth, responded to a home explosion on the 4900 block of Capitol View Road in the town of Springfield. At this time, one person has been confirmed deceased.

It is believed the fire may have set off ammunition inside the home, which is why some nearby residents were reporting sounds of gunfire. Firefighters continue battling the fire, and Capitol View Road will be closed for several hours. The cause of the explosion has not been determined.

MG & E and Salvation Army also responded to the scene to assist. This is an ongoing investigation; additional information will be provided when it becomes available.
