S&P Global Ratings give County high marks

MADISON – Dane County Executive Jamie Kuhn announced today that Dane County has once again received an “AAA” bond rating from Standard and Poor’s Global Ratings. “We appreciate the recognition from S&P Global of the strong management of Dane County’s finances and the power of our local economy,” said Kuhn.

The report states that “the rating reflects the county's robust and still growing economy, consistently positive operations in the last few years despite strategic drawdowns in fiscal 2023 and anticipated for fiscal 2024, and very strong reserves that are likely to be sustained.”  Maintaining a strong reserve to ensure this rating is crucial as Dane County considers its annual budget this fall.

“The continuation of an AAA rating is a demonstration of Dane County’s commitment to be a wise steward of taxpayer funds,” said Kuhn. “We will continue to be strategic in order to maintain the ‘broad and diverse’ economy referenced in the report.”

S&P Global Ratings is one of the nation’s premier credit rating agencies.  The AAA bond rating is the most prestigious designation in lending and is granted to only the highest quality, lowest risk bonds.
