MADISON — County Executive Melissa Agard today joined community members, leaders, and organizations in honoring the enduring legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on this year’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

“Today, we pause to reflect on the transformative vision and unwavering commitment to justice that Dr. King embodied,” said County Executive Melissa Agard. “His legacy is not only a reminder of how far we have come in the pursuit of equality but also a call to action for all of us to continue the fight against injustice in all its forms.”

“We must remember that Dr. King’s work was not simply about the words he spoke but about the action he inspired,” Agard continued. “Whether by challenging discriminatory systems, standing in solidarity with marginalized communities, or building bridges across divides, we all have a role in shaping a future that reflects his dream.”

In celebration of this day, Dane County invites residents to participate in events across the region, from educational programs and service projects to community discussions on advancing equity and justice. County Executive Agard will be participating in the 40th Annual Madison & Dane County MLK Day Observance at the Overture Center in Madison on Monday, January 20th at 6:00pm where she and Mayor Rhodes-Conway will honor Charles Tubbs and Sheray Wallace with the 2025 City-County MLK Humanitarian Award.

“Dr. King believed in the power of community, collective action, and service to bring about change,” Agard stated. “By coming together to serve and engage, we reaffirm our shared commitment to creating a better world for all.”

“Dr. King taught us that justice delayed is justice denied,” Agard said. “On this day, let us honor his legacy not just in words but through meaningful action that uplifts our neighbors and strengthens our communities.”
