County Executive Agard to Expedite Search for New Human Services Director after Finalist Declines Role

Madison, WI – Dane County Executive Melissa Agard announced today that Amy Everett has rescinded her acceptance of the Director role at the Dane County Department of Human Services.

 

“My goal throughout this process has been to find the best person to lead the Department of Human Services, which provides vital services for the residents of Dane County,” said Agard. “This department plays a critical role in supporting our community, and now more than ever, permanent leadership is needed to navigate the challenges ahead. I am disappointed that we lost a highly qualified candidate like Amy Everett but appreciate the time and effort she put into the process over the last few months.”

 

“This process was inclusive, ensuring that community voices were heard, and it followed the framework established by the County Board,” Agard stated. “I respected and followed that process, which led me to appoint Amy Everett as Director.”

 

“It is disappointing that certain members of the Dane County Board upended the process they created in 2023,” Agard expressed. “Putting candidates through months of scrutiny, including interviews and asking the public to weigh in on their qualifications, only to disrupt the outcome after an offer was made is unfair and disingenuous. It is a lot to put people through, and it sends the wrong message about how we conduct hiring in Dane County.”

 

Despite this setback, Agard reaffirmed her commitment to swiftly identifying and appointing a new Human Services Director. “Ensuring strong leadership for this department remains my top priority. We will move quickly to find a candidate who is ready to serve our community with dedication and expertise.”
