Two suspects in the homicide of 23-year-old Kyle A. Thrasher at the BP gas station on CTH N in the town of Pleasant Springs are in custody. The shooting occurred just after midnight on Friday, March 7th, and Kyle was pronounced deceased at the scene.
This was not a random shooting. This was a pre-arranged meeting; however, the nature of their relationship is still under investigation. What we do know is that this was a ruthless and senseless killing. After robbing Kyle, he was shot as he sat defenseless in his car.
Through a coordinated effort involving local and federal law enforcement agencies, investigators quickly identified two suspects using video surveillance and physical evidence. Several search warrants and interviews led detectives to Creed D. Moore, age 18, and Duane R. Johnson, age 24.
With the assistance of the U.S. Marshals, Moore was taken into custody on March 14th in Murfreesboro, TN. Johnson was arrested three days later, on March 17th, in Riverdale, GA. Both suspects will be extradited to Dane County in the coming days/weeks, where they will face multiple felony charges:
- Creed D. Moore – 1st-degree intentional homicide, armed robbery, endangering safety by use of a dangerous weapon, and felon in possession of a firearm.
- Duane R. Johnson – Felony murder and armed robbery.
“Our local and federal law enforcement partnerships were crucial to identifying and capturing both suspects swiftly,” said Sheriff Kalvin Barrett. “We want to extend our gratitude to the Madison Police Department, WI State Patrol, the Department of Corrections, the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force, WI DOJ-Division of Criminal Investigation, the WI Crime Lab and ATF’s Crime Gun Task Force for the invaluable support on this case.”
This homicide remains under investigation by the Dane County Sheriff’s Office. Anyone with additional information is asked to call Madison Area Crime Stoppers at 608-266-6014.
