A Madison man is in custody after a vehicle pursuit that began in the town of Albion at approximately 8:30 this morning.
Dane County Sheriff’s deputies initially responded to 527 Hillside Road in Albion for a report of a man acting erratically. When the man attempted to hit two individuals working at the Hillside Road address with his 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe, one of them fired shots in the air as they feared for their safety. The man drove away, but his SUV was soon spotted by a WI DNR Warden, who was in the area where the incident occurred. The Warden attempted to stop the vehicle, but the suspect fled, and a pursuit was initiated.
The warden and WI State Troopers pursued the Hyundai Santa Fe on I-90 while Dane County Deputies attempted to place tire deflation devices in his path. He ultimately hit one set of tire deflation devices and stopped on I-90, just north of Highway 12/18, in the town of Cottage Grove. The 34-year-old man was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital, where he was admitted.
One witness at the Hillside Road address sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the incident and was treated at a local hospital. No injuries were sustained during the pursuit. The suspect faces charges of 1st Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety (2 counts) and Disorderly Conduct (2 counts). Additional charges may result from other law enforcement agencies involved.
