Two people were arrested after they attempted to run from law enforcement overnight.
At about 11:30 pm on Monday, September 8th, a Dane County Sheriff’s deputy tried to make a traffic stop on a Honda Accord traveling west on U.S. Highway 12 at S. Stoughton Road. The stop was initiated because the license plate on the Accord came back to a Chevrolet Cobalt, and the registered driver did not have a valid license. Instead of pulling over, the driver picked up speed, and a short pursuit took place with deputies and assisting agencies.
After the pursuit had been terminated, a citizen on Dempsey Road in Madison reported a speeding vehicle. Moments later, Madison Police responded when the Honda crashed into a tree on Dempsey Road. Madison and Monona Police saw the driver running to a red Chrysler 300, which then hit a Monona squad before ending up in a grassy marsh area off Milwaukee Street. The Monona squad sustained some damage, but the officer was not injured.
Tyrone J. Lettman, age 47 of Windsor, the driver of the Honda Accord, was arrested by deputies for Felony Fleeing/Eluding. He also received several traffic citations and will face additional charges from Madison Police after they found a large amount of narcotics inside the car.
Ann C. Stelling, 49, the driver of the Chrysler 300, was arrested by Monona Police. She faces charges of resisting and obstructing, and violating her probation.
“This is a great example of Dane County law enforcement agencies working together to resolve a potentially dangerous situation peacefully,” said Sheriff Kalvin Barrett. “Keeping our roads safe for everyone is a goal we can all agree on.”
Both Lettman and Stelling are being held in the Dane County Jail.
