Dane County Board Recognizes International Migrants Day

Resolution honors the foundational cultural, social, and economic contributions of migrants across Dane County

DANE COUNTY, Wis. — On Thursday, Dec. 18, 2025, the Dane County Board of Supervisors officially recognized Dec. 18, 2025, as International Migrants Day. The board passed 2025 RES-263 to mark this observance and affirm the county board’s commitment to supporting and uplifting the county’s migrant communities.

The resolution highlights the vital contributions and enrichment to the county's culture and economy by our migrant neighbors. This includes the county's agricultural and dairy industries that rely significantly on the labor, expertise, and commitment of migrant workers who help sustain year-round food production and preservation.

“Some of Dane County’s defining industries would not be what they are without the valuable contributions and hard work of the migrant community in our county,” said County Board Chair Patrick Miles. “We thank them, and we are proud of the work the Dane County Immigration Affairs Office does to make sure migrants are respected, valued members of our community.”

The board also recognized and commended the work of the Dane County Immigration Affairs Office (IAO), which since 2017 has helped hundreds of county residents navigate their immigration journey by assessing their needs and connecting them to services.

“Recognizing International Migrants Day affirms our shared responsibility to honor the contributions migrants make to Dane County’s culture and economy and to ensure they are treated with dignity, respect, and fairness,” said Supervisor Yogesh Chawla (Dist. 6). “It also reminds us of the work that remains of reducing barriers, ensuring immigration services are capable of meeting demand, and fostering an inclusive community where migrants and their families are supported, represented, and able to thrive.”

The Dane County Board of Supervisors reaffirms its commitment to fostering an inclusive community where cultural diversity is celebrated, barriers to participation are reduced, and migrants and their families have equitable access to services, representation, and opportunities to thrive.
