Just before 10:00 pm on Monday, December 29th, Dane County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the 6600 block of Birch Road in the Village of Windsor when Mason Gunderson, age 36, violated a no-contact order.
The order was put in place when he was arrested, just hours before, after a domestic-related call at the same address. When deputies arrived at the call, Gunderson was sitting in his Jeep Wrangler outside the home. As deputies made contact with him, they deployed a tire deflation device in the event he attempted to leave. Despite orders from deputies to remain in his vehicle, Gunderson drove off, and deputies followed. Gunderson drove to his residence on Depot Street in Windsor, and he was able to get inside before deputies could reach him. When deputies attempted to force entry into the house, they heard a gunshot.
A perimeter was established, and the Sheriff’s Office Tactical Response Team, along with the Crisis Negotiation Team, responded. After several hours of negotiations, Gunderson surrendered to deputies. No other persons were inside the home during the standoff. Gunderson was booked into Dane County Jail at 4:30 am today on tentative charges, including:
•    2nd Degree Reckless Endangerment
•    Fleeing and Eluding
•    Failure to Comply with Officers' Attempt to Take into Custody
•    Violation of a 72-hour No Contact
•    Disorderly Conduct
