DANE COUNTY - On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Dane County Executive Melissa Agard marked the occasion by recognizing the lasting impact of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s leadership and the continued responsibility to advance equity, service, and opportunity in our communities.
“Dr. King challenged us to turn moral clarity into meaningful action,” said County Executive Melissa Agard. “His legacy lives on when we commit ourselves to expanding opportunity, investing in education, and ensuring that every person has the chance to thrive.”
“That responsibility is reflected in how we show up for one another - through mentorship, education, and service that lifts people up and strengthens our communities,” Agard continued. “Progress happens when we invest in people and work together to remove barriers that stand in the way of success.”
As part of the day’s observance, County Executive Agard will participate in the 40th Annual Madison & Dane County Martin Luther King Jr. Day Observance at the Overture Center for the Arts on Monday, January 19, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. During the ceremony, Agard will present the 2026 City-County Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Humanitarian Award to Armaad Jamaal Eubanks, recognizing his outstanding contributions to educational equity, mentorship, and community empowerment.
In recognition of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Dane County encourages residents to participate in local events throughout the region, including educational programs, service opportunities, and community conversations focused on advancing equity and justice.
“Dr. King reminded us that progress comes from collective action and everyday acts of service,” Agard added. “As we honor his legacy today, let us recommit ourselves to building a community where opportunity is expanded, voices are heard, and every person has the chance to succeed.”
