Sunday’s protest at Ridglan Farms in the town of Blue Mounds was significantly calmer and more peaceful.
Just after noon, approximately 200 people assembled on the road in front of the farm and exercised their first amendment rights. After approximately two hours, the group dispersed and began to move toward downtown Madison to continue their demonstration.
Saturday’s attempted break-in at the farm resulted in approximately 25 arrests, including the group’s organizer, Wayne Hsiung, age 44 of New York. Other notable arrests include:
- Aditya Aswani, age 29 of New York
- Melany P. Brieno, age 26 of Middleton
- Dean Wyrzykowski, age 29 of San Francisco, CA.
All are facing a tentative felony charge of conspiracy to commit burglary.
In addition, Michelle D. Lunsky, age 33 of Mesa, AZ, is tentatively charged with second degree recklessly endangering safety, for her actions of driving a vehicle erratically onto the property and through the crowd. The majority of arrestees were booked and released.
“We’re pleased with the group’s cooperation today, and their willingness to remain peaceful, while still sending their message of concern for the dogs at Ridglan Farms,” said Sheriff Kalvin Barrett. “We are happy to support anyone who wants to exercise the right to protest, as long as they do so lawfully.”
Once again, we want to thank the many law enforcement and fire/EMS agencies from throughout the county and the state, who responded to assist us. We also extend our sincere gratitude to the Dane County Communications Center and Dane County Emergency Management for their continued support.
