County Executive Agard Celebrates Dane County’s Working People this Labor Day

DANE COUNTY – Dane County Executive Melissa Agard today released the following statement in recognition of Labor Day 2026:

 

“Labor Day is an opportunity to recognize the working people who keep Dane County moving forward and to recommit ourselves to building a community where hard work is respected and rewarded. Every day, people across Dane County build our roads, care for our children and older adults, keep our communities safe, teach our students, grow and prepare our food, and provide the services our families rely on. Their work is essential to the strength of our economy and our quality of life.

 

“I believe every person deserves the opportunity to earn a good living, provide for their family, work in a safe environment, and have a voice on the job. Strong unions have helped generations of working people secure better wages, safer workplaces, good benefits, and greater economic security. Those protections have strengthened families and communities far beyond the union hall.

 

“My commitment to working people is deeply personal. I first became involved in politics during the fight over workers’ rights in Wisconsin in 2011. I spent countless hours at the Capitol with my children, standing alongside teachers, public employees, firefighters, park workers, and people from across our state who believed that workers deserved a voice. That experience continues to shape how I lead today.

 

“As County Executive, I am proud to stand with working people across Dane County. That means listening to workers, respecting the value of their work, supporting family-sustaining jobs, and ensuring their voices are part of the decisions that affect them.

 

“The labor movement reminds us that progress is rarely achieved alone. It happens when people stand together and fight for a better future for the next generation. This Labor Day, I thank Dane County’s working people for everything you do for our community. I am proud to stand with you, and I will continue working alongside you to build a Dane County where every worker has the opportunity to thrive.”
