At 11:25 am today, Dane County Sheriff’s deputies responded to what appears to be a “swatting” call at Deerfield Elementary School, 340 W. Quarry St., Deerfield.

A suspicious call came into the school from a male making threats of gun violence. Several deputies responded quickly and coordinated with school officials to secure the building. Deputies also responded to nearby schools as a precaution. The threats were deemed not credible, and staff and students were able to resume their day. Deputies remained in the area to ensure the safety of students and staff.

Swatting calls are a serious misuse of emergency services that can cause fear and divert resources from genuine emergencies. The Sheriff’s Office takes all school threats seriously and will investigate accordingly.
