Future Partnership Eyed Between County, Village to Improve Local Roads

Dane County and the Village of Oregon are working together to repair a major local thoroughfare, County Executive Joe Parisi and Village President Steve Staton announced today.

The County and Village are sharing in the $133,000 cost of the resurfacing project on County Highway MM (Janesville Street) near the area where it intersects with Wolfe Street.

“People want government to work together and get the job done and we are proud to partner with Oregon on this needed project,” Parisi said.  “Together, we are making for a smoother, safer ride for this well-used road.

“The Oregon Village Board is committed to improving our streets where needed as quickly as it is financially feasible to do so,” Village President Steve Staton said.  “The willingness of the County to partner with the Village is a  significant  factor in the Village being able to move forward in a timely manner.”

“I am pleased that village and county officials were able to negotiate in good faith to resolve this much needed repair issue as it will greatly contribute to traffic safety for Oregon area residents,” County Board Supervisor and Oregon Village Trustee Jerry Bollig said.

As part of the project, concrete will be replaced and the Village will improve sewer and other utilities in the area.  Work is slated to begin later this spring and be complete this summer.

The County and Village have begun initial conversations on a more comprehensive, collaborative approach to upgrading other thoroughfares in Oregon including the remainder of Highways MM and CC in the Village limits.  Pending agreement and approvals, work any of those future projects would be conducted in future years.

A resolution authorizing the agreement will be introduced to the Dane County Board of Supervisors next week.
