A flash flood watch is now in effect for Dane County.

Lake Water Level’s Update

Dane County Lakes staff has been working around the clock to do everything they can to mitigate additional flooding before more rain is expected this week. Due to their efforts, Monona crested yesterday and levels should slowly go down today. Working through the weekend, county staff used 10 lake weed harvesters to remove over 270 loads of aquatic plants in the past several days. That’s doubled the flow of the water leaving the chain of lakes. More water is now leaving the Yahara Chain than what’s entering it, allowing for levels to stabilize.

As of today (due to the rain last night), Mendota is up ¾” , Monona is down ½”, Kegonsa is up 1.3”.

There are 5 sandbagging operations happening around the county one in Monona, and 4 in Madison.

The instability of the weather remains a concern and we are urging residents to be vigilant and keep informed of weather updates and street closures.

  • Treat all floodwaters as contaminated. Stay out of flood and sewage waters.

o   Wait until water subsides because there are harmful bacteria and viruses in the water.

    ·        After water and debris has subsided, proper clean-up is important.

o   Wear rubber gloves and boots and wear eye protection to prevent contaminating yourself with sewage.

o   Wash hands thoroughly and wash clothes separately after finishing clean-up of sewage.
